Many
ancestral homes in the UK still exist to this day. A fascinating
way to get closer to your ancestors is to actually see and own
a photograph of where they lived. Ask the Genealogy Detective
to locate your ancestor's home and send 5 photographs of the
home and / or area.
Even if the original home does not exist, it's interesting
to see the locality of your ancestors and gain a greater understanding
of their lives.
The Genealogy Detective is based in the south west of England
and therefore can provide the most cost-effective photography
service in this area. (Full UK coverage is available at extra
cost)*.

WHY WOULD I WANT A PHOTOGRAPH
OF MY ANCESTOR'S HOME?
The United Kingdom is steeped in history; full of castles, manors,
stately homes and quaint cottages. Many of these building are
hundreds of years old - some of them even date back to mediaeval
times and beyond. If you know the address of an ancestor, it's
possible that the original house is still standing.
A fascinating way to get closer to your ancestors is to actually
see and own a photograph of where they lived. Such information
enhances your genealogical research by adding a real background
to the lives of the people that you are descended from. Short
of actually visiting such places, this is the closest you may
be able to get to connecting with your ancestors, and starts
to give you an understanding of their day to day lives.
Even if the original home does not exist, it's interesting
to see the locality or your ancestors and gain a greater understanding
of the environment in which they lived and worked.
WHICH AREAS OF THE UK ARE YOU ABLE
VISIT?
The Genealogy Detective is located in the Taunton area of
south west England, in the county of Somerset. Whereas anywhere
in the UK is potentially accessible, locations within a 25 mile
radius of Taunton can be photographed at the basic rate, with
costs increasing as the distance increases from Taunton.
The basic costs for the Ancestral Home Photography Service
are based on travel zone distances, as shown by the map (right).
The distances are:
Zone A: 25 mile radius
Zone B: 75 mile radius
Zone C: 150 mile radius
Zone D: 300 mile radius
Zone E: Greater than 300 miles
HOW MUCH DOES THE ANCESTRAL HOME
PHOTOGRAPHY SERVICE COST?
Outside of the 25 mile radius of Zone A (see above), much
of the cost of the Ancestral Home Photography Service is due
to the distances travelled. The costs are therefore based on
the distance of the ancestral home from our base location (Taunton,
Somerset, England).
All costs given here are a guide. If you decide to go ahead,
you will be asked to provide the details that you have via a
request for a quotation. The Genealogy Detective will review
the information given, plus digital map and satellite imagery,
to try and determine if the ancestral home still exists. If necessary,
the Genealogy Detective will contact the local authorities, and
even the current home owner, to establish more facts. If the
exact location of the property cannot be pinpointed, but you
still want to go ahead with the service, then there will be an
additional charge for searching. You will also be asked to confirm
that you accept that there may be no satisfactory end result
to the search for the property.
The cost of the service is based on the travel distance to
the location to be photographed:

will provide the lowest price for the service. Please remember
that costs will increase the further away from the Taunton area
that the property is located.
When we receive your quote request, we will calculate the
cost and send the information to you by e-mail. The e-mail message
will include a link to a payment page that will allow you to
make your payment for the service, should you wish to proceed.
As we need to research the locality of the property, and determine
if it still exists, please allow up to 14 days to receive your
quotation.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO GET
MY ANCESTRAL HOME PHOTOGRAPHS?
The time taken to visit the property and take the photographs
will mainly be dependent on the distance of the property from
our base location.

more planning and may take up to 12 weeks.
All times given are not guaranteed (see Terms
& Conditions for more information).

You will receive 5* A4 sized (210 × 297mm, 8.27 x 11.69

its place) then 2 of the photographs will be taken of the property.
A further 3 photographs will be taken to show the surrounding
area that the property is located within, to help explain the
context.
