WHAT SORT OF INFORMATION DO YOU
HAVE ACCESS TO?
The Genealogy Detective has access to a wealth of on-line information,
plus archived databases that have been compiled onto CD-ROM.
Some of the information resources are available on-line for free
(if you know where to look for it), whilst other information
is retrieved through subscription services. Often, finding one
vital piece of information provides clues for further research.
If you request an Ancestor Record Search to be conducted by
the Genealogy Detective, you will receive better quality information
than if you were to conduct an on-line database search yourself.
Instead of getting hundreds of possible matches, some of them
obviously irrelevant, the Genealogy Detective will filter and
examine the results, and only inform you of the positive matches
or juiciest clues that point to further research.
Even if you've tried searching for your ancestors yourself,
you may want to ask the Genealogy Detective to try again for
you. This is because the Genealogy Detective uses some clever
lateral thinking and 'tricks of the trade' to approach searches
in a way that many people would not consider.
WHY WOULD I WANT TO DO AN ANCESTOR
RECORD SEARCH?
Firstly, as explained above, an Ancestor Record Search conducted
on your behalf by the Genealogy Detective will provide extremely
high quality results, if there are records to find. This means
that instead of getting pages and pages of irrelevant leads,
you will be provided with results that are positive matches,
or are extremely likely to provide more information. If there
is nothing to find you will be told as such. This is one of the
risks taken when searching for an ancestor - there is no guarantee
that a record will be found, and there are many reasons why we
may not be able to locate a particular record.
The main reason for requesting an Ancestor record Search,
is the possibility of finding a vital clue that opens up more
avenues for investigation, and helps locate more family members.
An Ancestor Record search can help add more leaves to your family
tree by discovering long lost relatives that you never even knew
existed!
WHICH CENSUS DATES DO YOU HAVE
ACCESS TO?
One of the important sources of information for locating
ancestors is through the censuses. The Genealogy Detective specialises
in locating ancestors that were living in the United States Of
America and United Kingdom. If your ancestor was alive
in the USA between (1790 and 1930) and in the UK between (1841
and 1901) then they are very likely to have been recorded on
a census, and we should be able to find them.
HOW DO I REQUEST AN ANCESTOR
RECORD SEARCH?
To request an Ancestor Record Search you must first go to the
Ancestor Record Search
Request Form. Please use the form to provide as much information
as you can about the ancestor you are searching for.
You must at least be able to provide the following information
about your ancestor to initiate a search:
- Surname
- First name
- Approximate year of birth
- Location (at least the COUNTRY & COUNTY in which they were
living)
The more information you can provide, the more likely it is we
will have some results to return to you. Whether or not we find
any information, you will receive a report by e-mail detailing
our findings.
Successful completion of the form will take you to the payment
page, where you can add the Ancestor Record Search Request to
your shopping cart. You can make as many search requests as you
like, by returning to the Ancestor Record Search Request Form,
completing the form with another set of information, and adding
this request to your shopping cart. Don't forget to go to the
checkout and pay for all the services you have requested before
you leave the Genealogy Detective web site!
PRICE: £5 ($9*) per search
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO GET
THE RESULTS OF MY ANCESTOR RECORD SEARCH?
Depending on the current demand, we can normally return the results
of an Ancestor Record Search in 24 to 48 hours.
WHAT TYPE OF INFORMATION WILL
I RECEIVE?
Whether or not we are successful, we will send an e-mail report
to confirm that the Ancestor Record Search has been completed.
If the search is successful, the e-mail report will confirm
the identification of your ancestor (including the likelihood
that it is them). The report will also include information about
other family members which are potential leads for further investigation.
You will then be given the opportunity to request further Ancestor
Record Searches to supplement the information that you have already
received.
It may be necessary to request a copy of a birth, marriage
or death record from a records office in order to confirm a possible
ancestral link. If this is necessary, the Genealogy Detective
will advise you. We can then either supply the relevant reference
numbers for you to obtain the records yourself, or the Genealogy
Detective can obtain the records for you on your behalf. If you
require the Genealogy Detective to obtain records on your behalf,
there will be an additional charge, to cover both the charges
levied by the records office, and to cover administration costs.
