Who is the Genealogy Detective?
Lisa Hunt is the "Genealogy Detective".
With
over 30 years experience in genealogical research, Lisa Hunt
is an American who has been living in the south west of England
for more than 10 years. She has over 5,700 names in her daughter's
family tree, with ancestors included from both sides of the Atlantic.
With a knowledge and understanding of American genealogical research,
plus access to British records and localities, Lisa is in the
position of being able to offer a unique and personal genealogical
service to people researching their family trees.
What is genealogy?
Genealogy
is the study and tracing of family pedigrees. This involves the
collection of the names of relatives, both living and deceased,
and establishing the relationships among them. The research is
based on primary, secondary and/or circumstantial evidence or
documentation, thus building up a cohesive family tree. Genealogy
is often also referred to as family history.
What services do you offer?
The Genealogy Detective offers the following services:
What information do you have
access to?
The Genealogy
has access to a wealth of on-line information, plus archived
databases that have been compiled onto CD-ROM. Some of the information
resources are available on-line for free (if you know where to
look for it), whilst other information is retrieved through subscription
services. Often, finding one vital piece of information provides
clues for further research.
Do you visit cemeteries to
help with genealogical research?
Yes. The
Genealogy Detective is based in the south west of England and
can provide a cemetery research service in this area. (Full UK
coverage is available at extra cost). The search will include
the local church if the cemetery is in the grounds of one.

How can I fill in missing gaps
or extend my family tree?
If you have
already conducted some research into your family tree, but have
come to a dead end and can't go any further, the Genealogy Detective
can pick up from where you've left off and attempt to add more
information for you.
All you need to do is either supply a GEDCOM (Genealogical Data
Communication) file of your electronic family tree, which most
of the genealogy software is able to do, or send a hard copy
version to us in the post.

What is the Ancestral Home
Photo Service?
You
can ask the Genealogy Detective to locate your ancestor's home
and send up to 5 photographs of the home and / or area. Many
ancestral homes in the UK still exist to this day. A fascinating
way to get closer to your ancestors is to actually see and own
a photograph of where they lived.

I have some badly damaged photos
of my ancestors, do offer an antique photo restoration service?
Yes
we do. We can digitally repair copies of old photographs of your
ancestors to make them look like new. Old antique photographs
will almost certainly have suffered the ravages of time, and
are often creased, faded or damaged.
