WHAT IS A CENSUS LOOKUP?
As
you may be aware, over the last few thousand years governments
around the world have been interested in finding out about their
populations - how many people, where they lived, what they did,
and how much they earned (so that they could be taxed some more).
Much of the information from these censuses has been lost
over time, but more recent census information (particularly from
the USA and United Kingdom) not only still exists, but is now
available for search on the Internet.
We can search the census information stored on the Internet
for you, to help you track down your ancestors.
WHY WOULD I WANT TO DO A CENSUS
LOOKUP?
The information recorded in past censuses is often the best way
to find an ancestor, and (more importantly) the ancestor's other
relatives. Finding an ancestor's parents allows you to take your
family tree back another generation. Census information usually
includes the location (address) of the person, and the names
of other people living with them. This helps to ensure that the
right person is identified by matching the names of parents,
brothers and sisters, and children with the facts that you may
already have.
Even if you've tried conducting census lookups yourself, you
may want to ask the Genealogy Detective to try again for you.
This is because the Genealogy Detective uses some clever lateral
thinking and 'tricks of the trade' to approach searches in a
way that many people would not consider.

This web site focusses on the United States Of America and
United Kingdom Censuses. Your ancestor must have been
alive in the USA between (1790 and 1930) and in the UK between
(1841 and 1901) for us to find them.
HOW DO I REQUEST MY FREE LOOKUP?
It's easy to request your free census lookup. Simply go to our
FREE Census Lookup Request Form
and fill in as much information you can. The more information
you can provide, the more likely it is we will have some results
to return to you. Please remember that your ancestor must
have been alive in the USA between (1790 and 1930) and in the
UK between (1841 and 1901) for us to find them.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO GET
THE RESULTS OF MY FREE LOOK UP?
Depending on the current demand, we can normally return the results
of a lookup in 24 to 48 hours. However, this is no guarantee,
and as this service is particularly popular it may take longer
than this time.
WHAT TYPE OF INFORMATION WILL
I RECEIVE?
Whether or not we are successful, we will send an e-mail message
to confirm that the lookup has been completed.
If the lookup is successful, the e-mail will confirm the identification
of your ancestor (including the likelihood that it is them).
The report will also include information about other family members
which are potential leads for further investigation. You will
then be given the opportunity to request further (chargeable)
Ancestor Record Searches to supplement the information that you
have already received.
I'VE ALREADY HAD MY FREE LOOKUP
